It is a direct acting sympathomimetic adrenergic alpha-agonist drug indicates to induce systemic vasoconstriction, thereby decreasing nasal congestion. The sympathomimetic action of this drug constricts the smaller arterioles of the nasal passages, produce a prolonged decongesting effect (8-12 hours).
0.1% solution instill into each nostril 2-3 times a day for 5-7 days.
It is used for treating nasal congestion and minor inflammation due to allergies or colds.
Headache, insomnia, tachycardia, hypertension, nervousness, dizziness, palpitation, nausea, and arrhythmia. Local burning or stinging, sneezing, dryness of mouth and throat, nausea. Eye drops: Dryness of eye.
Angle closure glaucoma; dry rhinitis; post trans-sphenoidal hypophysectomy, trans-nasal, trans-oral surgery where dura mater is exposed.
