Pharmacokinetics

Actions

Zotepine is an antagonist at central Dopamine (D1 and D2) receptors. This drug binds with serotonin, adrenergic receptors, and H1 (histamine) receptors. Zotepine selectively inhibits noradrenaline reuptake.

Dosage/Dosage form

25 mg of Zotepine thrice daily oral. 

Therapeutic uses

For the treatment of acute and chronic schizophrenia.

Adverse effects/Side effects

Interaction

  • Zotepine may interact with CNS depressants, sedatives, hypnotics, anti-hypertensive drugs, anesthetic drugs and anti-muscarinic drugs.
  • Do not consume alcohol while taking Zotepine. Alcohol may cause additive effects.

Lactation.

Precautions

  • Monitor ECG, LFTs and electrolyte profile regularly while taking Zotepine. 
  • Zotepine is contraindicated in patients with pre-existing QT prolongation, renal stones, acute gouty attacks, paralytic ileus, CNS depression, CAD with or without angina pectoris, pheochromocytoma, prostate hyperplasia, neuroblastoma, Parkinson’s disease, closed-angle glaucoma, behavioural disorders and convulsion. 
  • Do not withdraw Zotepine abruptly to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
