I. PURPOSE:
To provide a procedure Operation and Calibration of Conductivity meter, Polmon CM-540
II. SCOPE:
This procedure is applicable to the conductivity meter, Polmon CM-540 used in the Quality Control department
III. RESPONSIBILITY:
It is the responsibility of the concerned personnel involved in the operation of the conductivity meter, to follow the procedure as written in this SOP.
IV. DOCUMENT REFERENCE:
SOPs : Core Procedure: Calibration of equipment
Forms : Calibration of Conductivity Meter
V. OPERATION:
1.0 PRELIMINARY CHECK:
1.1 Check that the instrument is clean and free from dust, if not, clean with a soft cloth duster.
1.2 Ensure that the temperature sensor and electrode is always dipped in purified water.
2.0 BASIC OPERATION:
2.1 Before using the conductivity meter, ensure the validity of calibration.
2.2 Rinse the electrode with distilled water.
2.3 Remove water adhering the electrode with tissue paper.
2.4 Take the test sample into a beaker and dip the electrode in the sample.
2.5 Measure the temperature of the sample.
2.6 Press OK and select Conductivity through Mode switch (If mode is in TDS).
2.6 Press Auto mode through Mode switch (If mode is in manual ).
2.7 Note down the initial reading.
2.8 Shake the beaker gently and take final reading.
2.9 Remove electrode from the test sample and rinse it with distilled water.
3.0 Keep the electrode dipped in a glass beaker containing distilled water.
VI. CALIBRATION
Calibration frequency: Daily
3.0 Instrument calibration
3.1. Rinse the conductivity cell with sufficient of water.
3.2. Wipe off the water adhering the cell with tissue paper.
3.3. Press `PRG/CAL’ key, it prompts for password enter ‘100’ as password through the
Up and down keys present on the right side of the Conductivity meter.
Press `OK/HOLD’ key.
“PRG 1
Calib”
Will be displayed on the screen.
Press `OK/HOLD’ key.
“Sensor
Cal”
Will be displayed on the screen.
Press `OK/HOLD’ key.
“Dip cell in STD soln
Will be displayed on the screen.
Press `OK/HOLD’ key.
WAIT will be displayed and subsequently Conductivity Reading of standard solution will be displayed.
3.4. Keep the cell in calibration standard (Traceable to NIST) and measure the conductivity.
3.5. Adjust the temperature of the standard sample to 25 + 1OC.
3.6. Record the conductivity of calibration standard. It should be 23.8 + 0.3 ?S/cm.
3.7. If the instrument fails in calibration, proceed as per the Core Procedure, “Calibration
of Equipment”.
