1.0 PURPOSE:
1.1 To lay down the procedure for operation of PICO pH meter
2.0 SCOPE.
2.1 This SOP is applicable for the Operation of PICO pH meter in QC / IPQC Laboratories.
3.0 RESPONSIBILITY
3.1 Jr. Assistant-QC
4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY
4.1 Sr. Executive-QC
5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Power on pH meter , only two keys are active, i.e. RESET and MODE.
Enter the Temperature by pressing the keys.
5.8 Taking pH reading of Sample.
5.8.1 Remove the pH electrode from the solution and rinse it with distilled water
2 to 3 times, soak the excess water with tissue paper and insert the pH
electrode and Temperature sensor (RTD) in the sample beaker.
5.8.2 Stir the sample solution keeping the pH Electrode and RTD immersed.
5.8.3 The LCD displays Wait Stabilising and the value of pH is displayed after
stabilization. Enter the Sample Name & ID.No. by pressing alphanumric
keys
5.9 The instrument Prints the report of reading taken ONLINE.
6.0 PRECAUTIONS
6.1 For fast response of the pH electrode during sample measurements, the electrode is to be soaked in a slightly acidic solution. pH electrodes should always be stored in a moise condition, in eithr a 7.00 pH buffer saturated with KCL or 3M. KCL solution between routine measurements.
6.2 Electrode/RTD Sensor should always be used in vertical position.
6.3 Electrodes should be rinsed between sample measurements with distilled or de-ionised water. NEVER rub the electrode bulb to remove excess water, just blot the tip end of the electrode with a clean tissue paper to remove residual drops.
6.4 Vigorously stir the electrode in the sample, buffer, or rinse solution for fast response.
